Company Profile
Christensen Shipyards, Ltd., located in Vancouver, Washington (USA) completed its new 92,000 square foot yard in 1986 and gave itself the capability of building six yachts simultaneously. Key to this operation are the eight large enclosed, climate-controlled assembly bays, one which houses an expandable hull mold for hulls from 115 to 155 feet. All other operations in the facility revolve around these bays and are located to serve the primary yacht building process. The yard houses a state-of-the-art electrical department, an efficient plumbing and pipe fitting department, a large metal shop, two separate paint shops for wood and metal, a modern cabinet shop and an upholstery shop for custom-built interior ceilings. The latest addition to the shipyard is a large finish bay where boat exteriors are painted in a controlled environment. The shipyard's modern capabilities allow Christensen to build the entire yacht on-site, providing high standards and unyielding quality in every component of each Christensen yacht. The Hull Christensen hulls are double AIREX cored fiberglass construction. These hulls, over 2 1/2 inches thick, derive their strength from combining the high tensile and compression strength of fiberglass, the toughness and resilience of vinylester and isophthalic resins and the structural strength and enormous elasticity of AIREX medium density foam. Kevlar and Carbon fiber materials also are used in appropriate areas of high stress. All Christensen yachts are built under full American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) classification and inspection. Hull Configuration The unique and massive hull mold developed for building Christensen yachts gives the naval architect, the builder and the customer extensive choices in hull configuration. The mold can produce hulls from 115 to 155 feet in length and can be widened for different beams as well as for varying engine and speed considerations. Engine Options Christensen yachts can be powered for any combination of speed and range desired. Trans-ocean range is attainable at moderate speeds while high performance engines can produce speeds over 25 knots. Each hull is structurally designed to deliver optimum performance and the strength necessary for the selected propulsion package. Christensen's Signature "S" - scarf Dedication to quality, Christensen's yacht interiors are marked by their rich, hand-crafted woodwork. Mahogany, teak, anigre' and other exotic woods are crafted by woodworkers who take personal pride in every piece of wood they finish. From custom-built furniture, trim railings, and galley cabinetry to dining furnishings-the rich, fine wood is finished with the skill and care of great craftsmen of the past.
